CIAAG TELLS YOU "THE STORY"

October 13, 2022

Study Findings:  Virtual Reality had offered no additional benefit in terms of either reducing anxiety or improving pain relief in patients with chronic pain.  In fact, a small subset of virtual reality patients actually asked to be removed from the study because the technology increased their anxiety levels.

Issues/Concerns: Despite this outcome, there is a continued push to promote and invest in virtual reality as a medical treatment.   Virtual Reality is not a replacement for the necessary biomedical care individuals require to address their physical ailments.

Further, there has been millions of dollars invested into the study of Virtual Reality as a medical treatment.  While Virtual Reality may provide some benefits for an individual's mental health, it certainly cannot replace biomedical care for treating pain that results from illness, injuries, or surgical procedures.
